Chocolate brownies

You don’t need to be a star baker to follow this easy brownie recipe. This gooey fudgey mixture is straight from dessert heaven.

25-30 minutes
What you'll need
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 4 eggs
  • 250g golden caster sugar
  • 100g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 30g Cocoa powder
Method

Makes roughly 12 brownies

Step 1.

Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan 160°C/gas mark 4.

Step 2.

Line a 22cm square brownie tin with greaseproof paper.

Step 3.

Melt the butter and chocolate together in a microwave or in a bowl set over a pan of simmering water.

If melting in the microwave, be sure to keep an eye on it – chocolate can burn very easily!

Step 4.

Whisk the eggs and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Step 5.

Stir the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and sift in the flour, baking powder and cocoa until it’s a fudgey batter.

Step 6.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is cracked but the middle just set.

Step 7.

Cool completely, then lift out of the tin and cut.

Step 8.

Serve with ice cream or strawberries.

Try mixing 100g of milk or white chocolate with 100g of dark chocolate, or adding a nutty finish with 100g of toasted hazelnuts or pecans.

You could even add mini marshmallows to the mix for extra melted goodness.
