1 in 20 million- Story 8
Stelling Minnis Fun Run
Today’s 1 in 20 Million story is about Mr Xinyang Yu and Mrs Sijia He, the couple who run Dumpton Post Office and Stelling Minnis Stores and play a huge part in village life in Stelling Minnis.
Their independently run store and Post Office has supported 14 different community groups over the last six years, donating more than £11,000 to local schools, churches, heritage projects, sports clubs, village halls and community events.  Their support touches every corner of the village.
Earlier this year, Sijia had a brilliant idea to stage the Stelling Minnis Fun Run as part of a wider community group. Â She helped to organise the event, which was a true village effort, with support from Rose & Crown Pub, Knowler Events, and fellow organisers Angela Hirst and Ann Day.
The day itself brought the whole community together – a 5k challenge for those feeling adventurous, and the Minnis Mile to make sure everyone could take part. Despite the sweltering heatwave, the village turned out in force, raising £500 for local projects and finishing the celebrations at the Rose & Crown for a BBQ.
Stories like theirs show what our 1 in 20 Million campaign is all about – celebrating the people who bring communities together, lift others up and help communities thrive.
