Double awards success for Nisa’s charity

The awards are rolling in for Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity with the second accolade in as many weeks.

Hot on the heels of its success at the Better Society Awards, which saw the charity presented with the National Commitment to the Community Award, MADL received further acknowledgement last week for its support of good causes at the Business Charity Awards.

The awards recognise the support given by businesses to UK charities and organisations and saw MADL recognised with the Corporate Foundation Award for its outstanding support to the charity sector, with judges noting how it was “good to see corporate partnership being delivered through local decisions / initiatives that empower the communities”.

Last year the charity supported good causes across the UK with more than 2,000 donations totalling over £1m and experienced a record first quarter for donations. Whilst the majority of donations made via Making a Difference Locally are nominated by Nisa retailers and donated from the funds they accumulate, the charity also runs funding giveaways such as its Heart of the Community Awards initiative.

The latest round enabled retailers to nominate a local good cause or community group to receive funding to help mark the Platinum Jubilee with events such as afternoon teas, garden parties and street parties. 125 causes across the UK, ranging from village halls, primary schools and sports clubs, to health charities and care homes, will benefit from donations totalling £100,000 to help communities celebrate the historic occasion next month.

Kate Carroll, Nisa’s Head of Charity, said: “We are truly delighted and honoured to have been recognised with these awards, which are fantastic accolades for the team and all those involved with the charity.

“The awards are testament to the amazing work that Nisa partners do to support the communities they serve, along with their customers, whose purchases and donations really do help to make a difference.

“We are committed to investing in building stronger local communities and look forward to supporting many more.”
