Newby & Scalby Library bag a donation from Proudfoot supermarkets

Newby and Scalby Library and Information Centre received a cash boost this week from Scarborough retailer Proudfoot to fund replacement bags for their home delivery service.

The family-run supermarket group supported the Scalby Road library with a donation of £250 through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of Heritage own label products and branded items featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet.

Lesley Newton, Trustee of Newby & Scalby Library, commented: “The Home Library volunteers and the Trustees at Newby & Scalby Library are thrilled to have been awarded a grant of £250 to replace the bags in which volunteers deliver books to the library's Home Library customers.”

Fellow Trustee Tricia Whelan explained: "Our Home Library delivery service, staffed by a small team of dedicated volunteers, deliver books, audio books and DVDs to over 70 customers in the local area.

“We are most grateful to The Proudfoot Group through whom Making a Difference Locally has enabled us to order brand new jute bags bearing the library's name, with purple trim, to replace the old delivery bags that were definitely past their best."

Staff at the library were so taken with the new bags that they hope to order more to sell to customers to raise additional funds for the library.
