Newsbox store Makes a Difference for Splott Albion FC

The Newsbox store on Tweedsmuir Road has donated £557 to Splott Albion FC through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, towards team equipment and supplies.

This donation was made possible thanks to the support of local shoppers purchasing selected products in store, and is the second made by the store through the charity.

Splott Albion FC is a local community club based at Splott Park in Cardiff and this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. The club has two mens teams, a ladies team and a number of youth teams, which are  going from strength to strength. Recently the club  secured their own club house/base at the pavilion on Splott Park, which allows the players to have somewhere to go after the games.

Making a Difference Locally is a charity established to support local communities, allowing Nisa-affiliated retailers to support local causes that matter to them with charitable donations. Every time a customer purchases an item (any product from Nisa’s Heritage or Co-op own label range) as part of the Making a Difference Locally scheme, a proportion of the cost is added to the store’s charity fund, which goes on to be distributed to local causes and organisations.

Craig Healon from Splott Albion FC said: “Any sponsorships or donations we receive is a huge help to the club, as this will help towards kit for the younger teams, which costs the smaller sides £280 and the older sides up to £450. Having the right equipment to help the teams develop and running costs are also extremely costly, as each coach must undergo training every three years to enable all our teams to continue to play grassroots football. We also take all the sides indoors over winter which is a further cost, so all donations are a massive help to the club and gratefully received.”

AT Lee, owner of Newsbox, said of the donation: “Being a local businessman I am proud to be part of the community. There are not many facilities for the local children, even though there are 3 schools in the area. Splott Albion Football Club offers a chance for  children to train and play as part of a team, teaching them the importance of teamwork, and also that it’s not always about winning, but about representing our community. That is why I have chosen Splott Albion Football Club to receive this donation.”
