Nisa Local supports Hilldrop Area Community Association

Hilldrop Area Community Association have received almost £2,000 from their local convenience store towards improving the facility and buying equipment for various events and general day to day activities.

The group received the £1,940 donation from Nisa Local on Brecknock Road in London via Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds in stores from the sale of Heritage own label products and selected branded items and allows independent retailers to support causes in their community.

Hilldrop Area Community Association is a small charity that delivers community centre facilities and services to benefit the local and wider community. Providing affordable user group space and supporting community engagement services to reach those who need it most, Hilldrop community Centre is a vibrant and innovative organisation. The donation from  Making a Difference Locally will support a current need to renew the tables and chairs that are used in the centre and improve safety and accessibility for users, as well as “enhancing (their) ability to host the range of community hires such as birthdays, weddings, funerals and training opportunities for local people, which are in demand”.

Nisa Local store owner, Tabrez Hussain, said of their donation: “We are a local, family-run independent store, at the heart of a great community. Being our closest neighbour, Hilldrop Community Centre stood out as an excellent opportunity to get involved with our local community through the MADL scheme.

“Many of the community centre’s volunteers have become our valued customers who help support our business. After talking to a few volunteers and seeing how they support the locals, it only made sense to give them our first official MADL donation.

Tabrez says the store also supports local children by providing healthy foods for a weekly after school club.

“Every Tuesday afternoon the centre hosts a healthy eating after school club for children. Their aim is to make young people aware of the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and gaining independence in preparing easy meals. As our business model is built to focus on selling fresh, healthy produce, we took the opportunity to become a weekly sponsor of this event, providing the children with a variety of healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta and rice.

“We hope that we can continue to support other local causes, and we are already planning to make our next donation to a local primary school. Thanks to everyone at Hilldrop for allowing us this great opportunity to start building a stronger community.”
