Proudfoot Supermarkets donates £1,000 to Scarborough Uniform Recycle
Proudfoot Supermarkets has donated £1,000 to Scarborough Uniform Recycle through Co-op Wholesale’s Making a Difference Locally charity.
Based at Westborough Methodist Church, Scarborough Uniform Recycle collects donations of clean, reusable school uniform and distributes them at giveaway events and throughout the year. The events, which typically attract around 80 families each time, are hugely popular, offering parents the chance to save money on school clothing while also reducing waste.
The group approached Proudfoot Supermarkets seeking support to help purchase large storage boxes, clothes rails, tables and a sack barrow, all of which will make it easier to display and store donated items. This will enable the project to reach even more families while preventing large amounts of clothing from going to landfill.
Proudfoot Director Valerie Aston visited Westborough Methodist Church to present the donation in person and meet with the volunteers.
Valerie said: “It was enlightening to see the volume of donated clothes, all good as new, cleaned and ready for parents to collect the uniform they need. School uniform can be costly and what better way to support families during this cost of living crisis?”
Kate Carroll, Social Value Lead at Co-op Wholesale, added: “Scarborough Uniform Recycle is a fantastic example of how local initiatives can make a real impact, both in easing financial pressure on families and helping the environment by reducing waste. We’re proud that, through Making a Difference Locally, independent retailers like Proudfoot can provide the support these vital community projects need.”
