Proudfoot supermarkets support local church appeal

Scarborough-based retailer Proudfoot is supporting St. Stephen’s Church in Snainton this month with a £250 donation towards their church roof appeal.

The family-run supermarket group donated the funds through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity, which raises funds from the sale of Heritage own label products and branded items featured on the Proudfoot promotional leaflet.

The funds will be used towards replacing the original roof - dating from 1835 - to keep the building a well-maintained space for the local community.

Following a condition survey undertaken by the church’s architect in November 2015, the Parochial Church Council of St. Stephen’s have been fundraising to replace the roof, install new drainage, and renew the woodwork inside damaged by damp and dry rot. In October 2017, the church was added to Historic England’s published Heritage at Risk Register.

St John Harris, Churchwarden of St Stephen’s, commented: “We are very grateful that Proudfoot, in agreeing to donate to our appeal, shares our vision for St Stephen’s.

“The development phase of our project is now complete and we now await confirmation from the Heritage Lottery Fund to proceed to delivery and we are hoping for a start on site in September. Proudfoot’s grant will go towards making that vision a reality.”
