Scarborough church receives funding to help with new community space

Scarborough’s Queen Street Methodist Central Hall has benefitted from a donation to the tune of £2,500 following a nomination from local retailer, the Proudfoot Group.

Proudfoot supermarkets responded to the Hall’s recent appeal for support to help fund catering equipment for their new Cornerstone community hub space, applying for a charitable grant via Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity.

The new Cornerstone area includes a kitchen and coffee bar inside the church and an area within the entrance hall in which refreshments can now be offered at community events held in the car park.

Carol Evans, Queen Street Church Council Secretary, said: “We are excited to be launching Cornerstone; a community hub where people can meet, eat and drink. Through Cornerstone, we will be able to serve refreshments for a wide range of groups and events."

“We are now keen to complete this project and the building work is nearing completion, however due to a number of factors the building costs have increased, and so we are in need of further funds for the equipment needed to enable us to provide meals and drinks.”

The donation from Proudfoot will help towards the purchase of items including a new catering oven, coffee machine and more.
