Tickhill retailer named Nisa’s ‘Community Champion’

Family-run grocery store Taylor’s of Tickhill was named ‘Community Champion’ by Nisa’s charity this month.

To celebrate the charitable and community-focused efforts of its independent retailers, Nisa’s registered charity, Making a Difference Locally (MADL), recognises one retailer each month who has truly made a difference to their community. Regular donations from Taylors to small, local causes through the charity – totalling over £7,500 to date - and further fundraising via MADL’s collecting tins saw the Doncaster store scoop the September Community Champion title and £250 into their charity fund to donate to local causes.

We’re flattered to have been chosen as this month’s Community Champion.

Taylors’ most recent donation helped to clean up the streets of Tickhill with a donation of £500 towards a new cleaning wheelbarrow, operated by local councillor and volunteer Nigel Cannings.

Chris Taylor, owner of Taylors of Tickhill, commented: “The recent £500 donation we made to part-fund a £1,200 wheelbarrow to keep the streets of Tickhill clean and tidy not only provides a valuable service to the community, but also excellent publicity for the charity, as it features the MADL logo and the barrow is around the village most days. One Facebook posting of the new barrow in use has had over 2,600 views!

“We donate our available funds as soon as we’ve accumulated a good balance. I believe it’s vital not only to support local causes within your community but to make use of the advertising possibilities these donations create.

“We’re flattered to have been chosen as this month’s Community Champion and we’ve decided to donate the £250 to The Sports Pavilion in Tickhill, who have launched a crowdfunding appeal for a defibrillator to be located on the building.”

Making a Difference Locally raises funds in Nisa-supplied stores from sales of Heritage own-label products and branded products featured on the Nisa leaflet. Stores are then able to donate funds raised to a local charity or good cause of their choice within a 10-mile radius.
