To help celebrate the King and Queen Coronation, Proudfoot supermarkets Make a Difference in Ganton through their Heart of the Community Award

After celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee in 2022, 2023 gave our local communities the opportunity to celebrate our new Kings Coronation.

Proudfoot supported 13 local groups with MADL funds towards their tea parties and received many thanks (and photos) for enabling this to happen.

One in particular was the small rural village of Ganton, close to our Proudfoot Seamer Store. They had not done anything like this for many years and the village was starting to feel a little dispersed. On the 7th May they held a ‘Bring and Share’ Tea Party in their village hall for all ages to attend. Their MADL donation helped with the purchase of Prosecco to toast the King and Queen and a Celebration Cake. Afterwards they walked to their local church for a service of celebration. Speaking to them after, they also plan to hold a similar party in 5 years’ time, to continue new friendships and their new found sense of community.

With the balance of funding, they planned to buy 3 trees to plant around the village in the Autumn with a commemorative plaque at the base showing the date of the Coronation etched in.

Last Friday 8th December, Valerie Aston joined Nicholas and Venetia Wrigley, along with members of the local Ganton community, to plant one of the three trees. The new Oak sapling was planted on common land adjacent to Station Road, Ganton.

Venetia Wrigley said “We are so grateful of Proudfoot’s support and kindness. I cannot begin to tell you what a difference this sort of support makes to a small village like Ganton, it really does give us a huge boost!”

Valerie Aston, director at the Proudfoot Group, added: “We were delighted to be able to use our Making a Difference Locally, Heart of the Community, funds to support so many in our local area. Planting the new Oak tree felt very rewarding. Not only is it a connection with nature, but it contributes to the environment and local community. And we look forward to watch it grown into a majestic tree.

“We would like to thank our customers for their continued support, through the in-store collecting tins and purchases of Co-op products in our stores; as without their support these community donations would not be possible.”
