TYS Retail reaches £50,000 MADL donation milestone with latest support for St Mary Magdalene Church and Stanground Eagles

Nisa retailer TYS Retail have recently reached a significant community milestone with over £50,000 donated across communities in Peterborough, Stamford and St Neots through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity.

TYS Retail currently operates eight stores and has been a Nisa retailer for over ten years.

Recently, TYS Retail’s Nisa Local Stilton store donated £1,000 to St Mary Magdalene Church to be used for church upkeep, including woodworm treatment which has caused issues for many months.

£900 was also donated for Stanground Eagles’ home kit – a local community football team which has players between the ages of 17 and 40 years. The club unites different age groups with local support.

That donation pushed TYS Retail’s overall MADL contribution to the local community to over £50,000 with the retail chain committed to further community support moving into 2024.

TYS Retail has supported many local charities and community groups over the last two years, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting its local communities.

Making a Difference Locally (MADL) is a charity launched to help independently run local stores to add value to their communities. The charity helps the stores achieve this by allowing them to nominate charities or good causes that are local to them to receive a specific donation from us. Donations may be to local sports teams, hospices or one of the many charities operating in the UK.

The communities supported are those which are served by local independently owned convenience stores that are customers of Nisa.

The charity helps Nisa stores raise money that can then be donated to local charities and good causes. This is done through the sale of selected products in store, including all Co-op own brand items and those from Nisa’s own-label Heritage range.

Every time an item included in the scheme is purchased, a proportion of the price is added to the store’s MADL fund, and this is then donated to good causes in that store’s local area.

Joy Wilson, Treasurer at St Mary Magdalene Church, added: “We are extremely grateful to TYS Retail and their Nisa Local Stilton store for their generous donation. The donation will help us to pay for much-needed woodworm treatment, which will ensure that our church can continue to serve the community for many years to come.”

Kate Carroll, Head of Charity at Nisa, said: “TYS Retail are a brilliant example of a Nisa retailer going above and beyond in their community. To reach over £50,000 in donations to so many different charities with varied causes is fantastic and demonstrates how successful the partnership between Nisa and retailers can be

“Congratulations to TYS Retail and I look forward to working with the team again in 2024.”

Sivarajah Thievanayagam, Owner of TYS Retail, added: “I believe in ‘we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give’.

“I live by helping the local community to make their lives better, and so far, we have donated to children football teams, to local playgroups, donated food to homeless people, and donated money to food banks in Peterborough as we continue to Make a Difference Locally through our partnership with Nisa. Most recently we have donated £1,000 to a local church and I’m proud of the role we play in our community.”
