Co-op Christmas wine tasting goes virtual

Wine tasting went virtual at Nisa last week with an exclusive event held to tie in with the launch of the Christmas licensed pre-sell event.

A selection of Nisa’s key account retailers were invited to the event which saw partners receive samples of Co-op own label wines featured in the pre-sell, that they were then able to taste as part of the Zoom call.

The aim of the event was to present partners with a unique opportunity to meet the wine buyers as well as to learn some of the background to three wines from the Co-op Irresistible collection: Prosecco, Gavi and Malbec.

“The virtual wine tasting event was a great opportunity for us to share information about the Irresistible range to help drive sales for Nisa partners.

Co-op wine buyers Ben Cahill, Sarah Benson and senior wine buyer Gyles Walker hosted the event, alongside Nisa’s wholesale category controller Danielle Sylvester, who shared information about the wines and answered questions from participating retailers.

Danielle said: “The virtual wine tasting event was a great opportunity for us to share information about the Irresistible range to help drive sales for Nisa partners and to enable them to ask questions and share thoughts about the wine.

“We had a really good response from our partners which was pleasing as it was the first time we have done anything like this, and we got some great ideas as a result.”

Valerie Aston, director at Scarborough-based Proudfoot Supermarkets, took part in the event. She said: “The evening was a fantastic idea; it presented a great opportunity to us to learn about the category, product provenance and how we can improve our own offers in our stores, especially in the run up to Christmas and the fact that we could get involved from our own homes or offices was just ideal.”

And Adam Vincent, director at Dike and Son in Stalbridge, said: “In these uncertain times it was a refreshing change to get together, via computer of course, with other like-minded retailers along with some very clever people at the forefront of their industry who gave us the latest information on trends and upcoming lines not to miss out on.

“The opportunity to try some wines that otherwise we may have overlooked was very much welcomed and I look forward to recommending them to our customers soon.”
