Modern new store to open in Stamford

A community in Lincolnshire is set to welcome a brand-new convenience store in place of a derelict pub that has been standing empty and in disrepair for more than five years.

The site of the former North Fields public house is to be transformed into a modern Nisa Local store which is due to open and start trading next month, creating up to 15 local jobs.

Offering shoppers a fantastic range of fresh produce, a deli counter, hot and cold food-to-go, as well as a comprehensive grocery offer including a large selection of award-winning Co-op own label products, the 3,000 sq.ft. store will launch at the end of October.

I’m looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming our shoppers.

Owner Siva Thievanayagam, who runs a number of other convenience stores in and around the Peterborough area, purchased the site in January and despite the added complications of Covid-19 says the development is running to schedule and he’s excited to be unveiling his latest project to the local community.

“We’ve worked really hard on the plans for this store. I really want people to walk in and get a good first impression as soon as they enter with a real wow factor.

“I want the store to have a modern feel but one that is different and unique and that the store is a place where shoppers enjoy their experience.”

With the latest flooring, lighting, shelving and refrigeration, two self-scan checkouts, extensive off road parking and a strong focus on pricing and promotions along with the wide ranging food-to-go offer and extensive 45 metres of chilled bays, Siva hopes his latest store will be a hit with the local community which he plans to become an integral part of.

He said: “We are situated in the middle of a large residential area and have a college directly across the road and so we plan to become an important part of the community, employing local people, serving the local area, working with them and supporting them with local causes.

“I have lots of ideas about how we will get involved and I’m looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming our shoppers.”

Victoria Lockie, head of key accounts at Nisa, said: “Siva’s latest project is so exciting, and shoppers are truly going to be blown away when they see what it has to offer.

“The Nisa team has worked really closely with Siva to help bring the store concept to fruition and I have no doubt that local shoppers will be absolutely delighted when the store opens.”
