Nisa Local in Bedale completes successful refit celebrating the ‘best of Yorkshire’

Nisa Local Bedale in North Yorkshire has completed a successful store refit including refreshed Food to Go and American confectionary sections.

The store is owned and operated by convenience chain Kash Retail with new Operations Manager Kevin Polley leading the refit project. The ambition for the store was to become a customer destination through offering the best of Yorkshire products.

Explaining the motivation behind the refit, Kevin said: “We needed to do something different. We took a good look at the store, and we decided that the theme of the store would be showcasing the best of Yorkshire products.

“We know offer Yorkshire products across our store with just over 250 Yorkshire lines available to customers.”

Another priority for the store was to give customers more takeaway options. This resulted in a complete refit of the ‘Food to Go’ section which expanded the range of Yorkshire products on offer.

Nisa Local Bedale’s Food-to-Go section now consists of a variety of different options including ice cream from a local supplier, locally made sandwiches, a new coffee machine and other wellestablished brands such as Rollover Hot Dogs.

Kevin added: “This is a massive extension and refurbishment for us at Kash Retail. We will be selling beer kegs for at home beer taps as we know this is a market we can target through our existing customer base. We are also adding a section targeted at helping with the cost of living as we know a lot of our customers are still finding it difficult. In addition, we’ve secured a range of American confectionary products and a new household product section.”

Kevin has been supported throughout the refit by Nisa’s store and retail development managers.

The store held an official re-launch event on Friday, 13 October and was re-opened by the Mayor of Bedale.

On the launch event, Kevin said: “We were delighted to a £500 cheque to Mowbray School thanks to Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity. “We also had a collection for Bedale youth club on the day and had roughly 18 Yorkshire suppliers who came along to do sampling with our customers.”

“I’d recommend any stores going through a refit to consider what they could do differently to make you stand out to your customers. We’ve had to think outside the box to shape what would make you unique and attract customers to your store.”

Michael Love, Key Account Manager at Nisa, commented: “It is always easier to work with a store that knows what direction they want to take for any refit and working with Kevin and the team has been a fantastic experience. The store looks great and I’m confident both current and new customers in Bedale are going to be impressed with the final refurbishment.”
