Nisa retailers ready for Chinese New Year celebrations

Nisa is supporting its retail partners to inspire customers whilst they are shopping for their evening meal with a World Food category promotion to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The Year of the Ox kicks off on Friday 12th February and Nisa is bringing back the popular Chinese Meal Solution event to help drive sales in partners’ stores.

With Meal for Tonight growing as a main mission in the symbol and Independent market in 2020 versus in 2019, retailers are being encouraged to utilise Chinese New Year as an opportunity to highlight easy family meal solutions for busy shoppers.

Top brand labels in the category including Tilda, Sharwood’s and Uncle Ben’s will feature in key offers to shoppers at Nisa as the Chinese New Year is used to encourage increased spending on meal solutions.

Customers will be spoilt for choice with the unmissable savings on staple Chinese-inspired Co-op own brand ingredients including Chow Mein Stir Fry Sauce, Free Range Egg Noodles and Mixed Pepper Bag, all on a 3 for £2.50 offer.

This will sit is alongside Tilda microwave rice pouches 250g at £1 each, Sharwood’s Prawn Crackers 60g at £1.25 and Sharwood’s Medium Egg Noodles 340g at £1.25 as well as a range of Uncle Ben’s jarred sauces including Cantonese, Sweet and Sour and Sweet and Sour Extra Pineapple, at just £1 each.

Karen Hutchinson, wholesale category controller at Nisa, said: “Chinese New Year provides the perfect opportunity to present a World Food category event, which have proved popular with both our retailers and their shoppers in the past.

“As a result of COVID-19 many people have been developing their cooking skills and have started being more creative in the kitchen, cooking up their own ‘fakeaway’ versions of their favourite dining out dishes.

“According to figures from Kantar research data, average basket spend in convenience is increasing so by utilising the dedicated Chinese New Year POS – which includes bus stops, shelf stripping and wobblers – and placing the promotion in a high footfall area of the store, we are confident this event will contribute towards increased sales for our partners.”

The promotion is available until Tuesday 16th February.
