Nisa staff raise over £1,400 for Scunthorpe Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal

Staff from Nisa’s Member Support Centre in Scunthorpe supported the Scunthorpe Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal last week by holding a full-day fundraising event which raised over £1,400 for the cause.

Nisa’s own registered charity, Making a Difference Locally, celebrates its 10th birthday this year and rather than simply hold an event for colleagues, it was decided that the event should also help raise money for a worthy local cause as part of the celebrations.

The fundraising day, which took place last Friday (25th May) raised a grand total of £1,469.80 through a range of activities including a raffle, competitions and breakfast, lunch, slush drinks and afternoon treats, which were provided for a small donation. Continuing the spirit of giving, Making a Difference Locally also donated additional funds to bring the total donation to £3,000.

The Health Tree Foundation (HTF), the charity for Scunthorpe General Hospital, launched the appeal to raise £150,000 to create a brand new bereavement suite on the central delivery suite at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The idea behind the suite is to provide a safe haven for families to stay and spend time together with their babies after they have passed away.

Making a Difference Locally was established in 2008 to help independent retailers who are partners of Nisa to support causes in their local community, and has donated over £7.6m to around 10,000 good causes to date. Funds are raised in stores through sales of ‘Heritage’ own label products and branded products which are featured on the promotional leaflet.

Kate Carroll, Nisa’s Head of Charity, commented: “We are delighted to celebrate our 10th year of supporting local communities and the fundraising day was a great way of doing so while demonstrating our commitment to local causes.

“Nisa colleagues were very passionate about supporting the Scunthorpe Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal and we are thrilled to have raised such a significant amount for them through our fundraising activities, which we hope will help The Health Tree Foundation to reach their fundraising target sooner.”

Health Tree Foundation community champion Hayley Thompson added:

I would like to personally thank all the staff at Nisa Partner Support Centre for all of their efforts and support towards helping make a difference to the Maternity Bereavement Suite Appeal.

It was an honour to be part of Making a Difference Locally 10th birthday celebrations. The nurses and I had a fantastic day and it was great to see so many people get behind the appeal.
