Scarborough retailer celebrates Yorkshire heritage with tasting event

Scarborough retailer Proudfoot Group celebrated their Yorkshire roots with a grand tasting event and fun day at their Newby store yesterday to mark Yorkshire Day.

The popular annual event took place at Proudfoot’s Scalby Road supermarket, showcasing food and drink from a wide variety of local suppliers, including Beacon Farm Ice Cream, Yorkshire Baker, Wold Top Brewery, Masons Yorkshire Gin, McCain and many more. Customers also had the opportunity to sample foods from Proudfoot’s own deli and butchery counters, as well as a tempting selection of Co-op own label wines and pizzas.

The day also offered prize draws, giveaways and face painting to entertain younger visitors, and a hamper filled with locally-sourced goodies was raffled to raise money for local causes via the store’s Making a Difference Locally fund.

And, to celebrate having donated over £50,000 to local causes to date through the charity, the store was visited by the Making a Difference Locally mascot.

Valerie Aston, co-director of the Proudfoot Group, commented: “We have always been proud to support Yorkshire suppliers all year round and our annual Yorkshire Day event aims to showcase some of the best local produce available.

“It encourages customers to try something new whilst celebrating our brilliant county with us and it’s great to be able to give something back to the community with events like these.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere in-store and we received some amazing feedback from both suppliers and customers alike.”
