Triumph for Nisa retailers at the Scottish Grocer Awards 2023

Nisa retailers claimed success at this year’s Scottish Grocer Awards with PGNJ Ltd taking home two accolades on the evening.

The first came in the Symbol Store of the Year (Multiple Stores) category, beating off tough competition on the evening. PGNJ Ltd were described by the Scottish Grocer as:

“This growing retail brand in the Greater Glasgow area makes the most of Nisa's proposition - using the depth, breadth and quality of the range to customise each store to suit the needs of the local community. The format flexibility creates store layouts that flow, with the right space for each category, and allows for innovation. PGNJ makes the most of insights from other Nisa stores and concepts shown at the symbol's Expo show. There is a strong emphasis on staff training and creating good managers for each store, as well as good evidence of use of technology and proactive local marketing.”

There was also individual success on the evening for PGNJ Ltd with Jay Javid receiving The Entrepreneur Award for showing initiative, working with confidence and being a driving force in the industry.

Whytes of New Pitsligo backed up their success earlier this year with another accolade – this time being named Community Retailer of the Year. The Scottish Grocer said of the store:

“This new store was opened by an enthusiastic local - in response to a need in the community - in the premises of a former shop that had been closed for 20 years. Posters and signs in the widows let the shopper know they are entering a community-minded store before they are inside. Once inside, they can choose from many products made within the community as well as an extensive convenience range as the owner notes what customers want. Community engagement includes goody bags for youth groups and star delivering shopping to housebound villagers.”

Everybody at Nisa would like to congratulate PGNJ Ltd and Whytes of New Pitsligo on their well-deserved successes last night.

Victoria Lockie, Head of Retail at Nisa, said: “What a fantastic night for Nisa and in particular for PGNJ Ltd and Whytes of New Pitsligo. To walk away with the Symbol Store of the Year award is brilliant news but to see Jay recognised with The Entrepreneur Award was just as special. Also, brilliant to see Whytes of New Pitsligo recognised again with Julie-Ann doing a fabulous job engaging with her local community. Huge congratulations to PGNJ Ltd, Whytes of New Pitsligo and all the finalists on the evening.”
