Classic BLT sandwich
Easy to prepare and exceptionally tasty, a classic BLT sandwich is the perfect addition to your summer picnic basket.
- 8 slices of bread (wheat or granary)
- 8 slices of smoked, streaky bacon
- 8 leaves of Co-op sweet romaine lettuce
- 4 Co-op vine tomatoes, sliced
Fry or grill the bacon on each side until golden and crispy, then leave to drain on paper towels to remove some of the excess oil.
Lay out the slices of bread onto a plate and evenly spread each slice with 1 tablespoon of mayo.
Add 1 leaf of the Romaine lettuce to 4 pieces of the bread, then place a couple of the tomato slices on top of the lettuce so that the whole slice is covered evenly.
Arrange 2 slices of the bacon on top of the lettuce and tomato, breaking it in half if needed, so that it doesn’t stick out of the edges. Top with one more slice of lettuce above the bacon.
Cover with the 4 remaining slices of bread, and cut diagonally into halves (or quarters if they are for children).
