Grilled Bean Burger

Our vegan grilled bean burgers are full of flavour, moist and hold together really well. Pair with sweet potato fries and tuck in.

What you'll need
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium carrot, shredded
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 can pinto beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 210g rolled oats
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • Salt and pepper
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Salsa
Method
Step 1

In a large non-stick skillet coated with cooking spray, sauté the onion and garlic in oil for two minutes.

Step 2

Stir in the carrot, chili powder and cumin. Cook for 2 minutes longer, or until the carrot is tender. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, mash the pinto beans and black beans. Stir in the oats.

Step 4

Add the mustard, soy sauce, ketchup, pepper and carrot mixture and mix well.

Step 5

Shape into 8, medium-sized patties.

Step 6

Grill patties, covered, over medium heat for 4 - 5 minutes on each side, or until heated through.

Step 7

Serve on buns with lettuce and salsa.
