Microwave chocolate mug cake

Craving something sweet? This easy mug cake recipe calls for cupboard essentials only, so you’ll always be ready for a chocolate fix.

What you'll need
  • 1 medium egg
  • 4 tbsp self-raising flour
  • 4 tbsp caster sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp oil (vegetable or sunflower)
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • A few drops of essence (vanilla or orange works well)
  • Chocolate chips (optional)
Step 1.

Add the flour, sugar, and cocoa powder to a large mug and mix until combined.


Next, add the egg and mix.

Step 2.

Add the milk, oil, and a few drops of essence. Mix until smooth, then add the chocolate chips if using.

Step 3.

You’re all set! Pop in the microwave and cook on high for up to 2 minutes, or until the cake has stopped rising and is firm to the touch.


Top tip

Serve up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
