Sugar snowflake pops
Quick and easy festive cookies to get you into the Christmas spirit. Try not to eat all the dough before it's baked!
- 350g of all-purpose flour
- 230g of unsalted butter
- 300g of sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1½ tsp of pure vanilla extract
- ½ tsp of almond extract
- Pinch of salt
- Icing sugar
- Green food colouring
- Red food colouring
- Silver balls
- White sprinkles
- Heatproof lollipop sticks
Makes roughly 30 - 35 cookies
Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C/gas mark 4.
Â
Grease the baking tray with butter.
In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Beat an egg and add it to the butter and sugar. Mix until incorporated.
Â
Add the vanilla and almond extract.
Sieve the flour into the bowl and fold it in as you go.
Roll out the cookie dough. Using a cookie cutter (we like Christmassy shapes), cut out your cookies.Â
Â
Insert a lollipop stick into each cookie, while the dough is still raw.
Bake for 10 - 12 minutes until the cookies are lightly browned.
Mix icing sugar and butter together in a bowl. Add a little milk, ensuring the icing still has a thick consistency. It's best to do this in small amounts at a time so you don't end up with runny icing.
Â
Split the icing into two batches and use green food colouring in one and red in the other.
Â
Decorate! Add the icing to your cookies, put the silver balls on and sprinkle!
