10 - 12 minutes
What you'll need
  • 350g of all-purpose flour
  • 230g of unsalted butter
  • 300g of sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1½ tsp of pure vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp of almond extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Icing sugar
  • Green food colouring
  • Red food colouring
  • Silver balls
  • White sprinkles
  • Heatproof lollipop sticks
Method

Makes roughly 30 - 35 cookies

Step 1.

Preheat your oven to 180°C/160°C/gas mark 4.

Grease the baking tray with butter.

Step 2.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Step 3.

Beat an egg and add it to the butter and sugar. Mix until incorporated.

Add the vanilla and almond extract.

Step 4.

Sieve the flour into the bowl and fold it in as you go.

Step 5.

Roll out the cookie dough. Using a cookie cutter (we like Christmassy shapes), cut out your cookies.

Insert a lollipop stick into each cookie, while the dough is still raw.

Step 6.

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes until the cookies are lightly browned.

Step 7.

Mix icing sugar and butter together in a bowl. Add a little milk, ensuring the icing still has a thick consistency. It's best to do this in small amounts at a time so you don't end up with runny icing.

Split the icing into two batches and use green food colouring in one and red in the other.

Decorate! Add the icing to your cookies, put the silver balls on and sprinkle!
