The best pancakes and toppings
Not sure which pancakes to make for Shrove Tuesday? We’ve rounded up a few of our faves and the best toppings to pair them with to help! Get the recipes below, and don’t forget to pick up the toppings at your local Nisa store.
Best served stacked, classic American pancakes are thick and fluffy as the recipe generally calls for a leavening agent, such as baking powder, to make them rise. Feeling adventurous? Try flavouring your pancake batter with a hint of cinnamon or a dash of vanilla extract.
When it comes to toppings, maple syrup is never a bad idea if you’re going for that authentic American experience. Scatter over blueberries or strawberries for an added zing, or opt for something more savoury with rashers of crispy bacon.
For the chocolate lovers, you might prefer a healthy helping of Nutella with Co-op Fairtrade banana slices.
If you’re opting for a plant-based Pancake Day, these easy vegan pancakes bring all of the flavour with no extra effort. Vegan pancakes are made without the usual dairy ingredients, instead opting for oil and alternative milk. So, you can cut back on your consumption without compromising on quality pancakes.
We like to top our vegan pancakes with Lotus Biscoff spread. If you’re feeling fruity, Tate & Lyle squeezy strawberry syrup or Co-op lemon juice makes for a refreshing combination.
Blueberry yoghurt pancakes
These blueberry yoghurt pancakes are fancier than your average. Upgrade your traditional UK pancake by adding blueberries to the batter. It’s a win-win as it not only enhances the flavour but also incorporates one of your 5-a-day by default.
Drizzle with yoghurt or ice cream for a rich and creamy finish. Don’t be afraid to top with extra fruit, either.
